Trip to Molena

On the way home from the beach, Mom and I made a stop in Molena to see my Dad's Aunt and Uncle Melvin. Melvin is my Granny's brother. He and Aunt Elsie have always been very special to me and I loved to visit their house as a little girl. They also have a house on the Flint River that we have enjoyed visiting. There is a huge Boy Scouts campground right down the street from the house with a ginormous playground. The kids had the place to themselves and they had a blast!! The highlight of the trip was playing with their dog Ollie and catching a catfish. Aunt Bobbie, Melvin and Granny's sister, is the one that had the bite of the day. The fish broke her rod and he got hung in some briers on the bank. Aunt Elsie and Bobbie had a time getting him loose, but they got him. Grayson loved playing with the catch of the day. Can you tell by Aunt Bobbie's face that she wasn't too thrilled with the thought of a fish in her net? She didn't know what to do with him. She is a mess.Aunt Elsie and GraysonGrayson had a ball with Ollie. Melvin and Elsie had this dog for about a year or two and he became too much work, so they gave him away to someone they knew about eight months ago. Aunt Elsie went to town the day before we got to Molena and saw Ollie in the street. Ollie immediately knew who she was and jumped in the car with Elsie and came back home with her. Such a sweet little dog! At the boyscout playground. Uncle Melvin told me the story of the man who paid for this place for the boyscouts. He couldn't afford to be a scout as a little boy so the leader told him that he would pay for his uniform to be a scout. The man never forgot it, so as an adult he paid for the scouts to have this magnificent campground. The place is really amazing - playground, pavillion, a lake to fish in, a ropes course, etc. Everything a little boy would need to learn and grow. So sweet! It is always so wonderful to see Melvin, Elsie and Aunt Bobbie! Melvin and Bobbie remind me so much of my beloved Granny and it is so neat to feel close to her by being in their company. She was one very special lady!
