Sick Baby

We had a big scare a couple of weeks ago with our little one. While we were at the beach, she got really cold in the pool so I got her out and took her in to get a bath. She was still freezing cold after a hot shower and she couldn't get warm. Her poor little hands and feet were turning purple she was so cold. After her bath, she fell fast asleep on the couch. She woke up and was running a fever of 103. I called her doctor, who is fabulous, and she called us in an antibiotic and an inhaler. The next day we were headed home. While we were in Molena, her temp went up to 104. I was getting pretty worried so Thursday I called the doctor and they wanted to see her on Friday since she was still running a high temp with an antibiotic. She checked out at the doctor - the dr. heard a little something in her left lung, she heard a heart murmer as well, which has been checked out by a cardiologist before which is just an innocent heart murmer which she will outgrow. Everything was alright until the blood count came back with showed an infection somewhere. Her white blood cell count was 24,000 and normal is between 5,000-10,000. I was starting to panic. The doctor ordered a shot of rocephin to help kill the bacterial infection. Poor baby!! I have never seen her in so much pain!! That shot HURTS! She wouldn't move or walk on her leg for five hours. We came home and she took a nap while I held her. I then got a call at 3:00 that she needed to have a chest x-ray to double check for pneumonia. She did great for the x-ray and it came back clear. Praise the Lord!

Saturday morning, it was back to the doctor to follow up. Her white blood cell count came down to 17,000, so that was a good sign that it was coming down. The doctor examined her and said that she looked great other than her tonsils which were covered in puss. He ran a strep test that came back positive. He said that she was the first case that he had ever seen that strep hadn't responded to the rocephin antibiotic. He sent it off to culture to make sure it was right. Poor baby then got a shot in the other leg of Penicillin to kill the strep. We were sent home with instructions to keep her hydrated and give Tylenol/Motrin for the fever.

I thought we were in the clear with two antibiotics - rocephin and penicillin that she would be better by that afternoon. I was wrong! Her temperature got up to 104.7 Saturday night and scared all of us! She was pitiful! Sunday she continued to run a fever, so Monday we were back in the doctor's office. He said she looked better and the puss was still present on her tonsils but that it was going away. She ran a fever of 102 all day on Monday. If she continued to have a fever by Tuesday or Wednesday, we would need to come back to the doctor. Thankfully, Monday was her last day of fever and we were in the clear!! Praise The Lord!!

After all of that, I got the phone call on Monday afternoon that the strep culture ended up coming back Negative!! So the doctors were at a loss for what was going on with her. I am just thankful the Mighty Healer up above was watching over her and answered our prayers.

We had our follow up appointment this week and her blood count is back in the normal range at 7,000. So glad to have a healthy little girl again.
