When Grayson woke up like this in March of 2012, I took him to the doctor thinking it was pinkeye. Well poor thing was having major allergy issues so we were referred to an Allergist. I was giving him Zyrtec in the morning and Claritan every night, and they weren't touching his symptoms.
He was given a panel test on his back to see what he was allergic to. They put an extract of things that he could be allergic to, and then they watched to see if his skin reacted. Poor thing, he reacted immediately . . . this was his back after just a couple of minutes.
Five minutes later and things were reacting even more . . .
After about ten minutes . . .
His back was itching so bad at the end of the test. He was such a great trooper though!
The test showed that he is Allergic to cats, dogs, every tree and every grass. He is also allergic to dust mites. The panel D was molds, which he is not allergic to.
So we began on a long road of Immunotherapy. He started out receiving 6 shots at a visit at the allergist. He would get one shot in each arm, then we would wait for 15 minutes to see if he would have a reaction, then he would have two more shots and we would wait for 15 minutes. Then he would have two more shots and we had to wait for 30 minutes for a reaction. Luckily the only reaction he has had is locally where the injections were given. His arm will swell pretty bad and be hot and knotty.
Getting his injection last week. . .
After a year, we have gotten our visits to the allergist down to once a month and now he only receives one injection in each arm! Here he is waiting after his shots.
He has been so great through the whole process. I am so glad we went through with injections, because he is already seeing benefits and doesn't have any symptoms. I know he has to feel so much better! We will continue with injections for the next three years and then he will be done and hopefully he won't have to repeat this process down the road.
