December of Sickness . . .

Okay, so it all started with the stomach virus on Friday for Grayson, then Saturday night, his eyes started running with nasty discharge, so a call into the doctor to tell me to use the eyedrops I have, then a cry at 4:30 am letting me know that his ear hurt. The doctor had given us a heads up on this because pink eye can lead to ear infections or vice versa. While I was up with Grayson with his ear hurting, Tieg was down with the stomach virus. So a trip to the Urgent Care on a Sunday morning confirms an ear infection with a sinus infection that leads to eye infections. Round one of antibiotics.

Then, Mommy goes down with the stomach virus and had to miss the annual baking day at my moms, and Tieg's company's Christmas party.

Grayson finishes the antibiotics in seven days and the next day, he starts running a fever. Head back to the doctor on Monday and she confirms that Grayson STILL has a nasty ear infection, so round TWO of antibiotics are started.

He continues to run a fever through Wednesday and has now missed his first three days of school. Head back to the doctor on Thursday to confirm that Grayson has the FLU!!!! He missed the rest of the week of school. :(

Kinsley began running a fever on Wednesday as well, but tested negative for the flu. The doctor felt that she had a case of the flu that manifested itself as the croup. So Kinsley started with Tamiflu to help with the flu symptoms and on a steroid for the croup. Poor thing!! Everyone starts to feel better, then it's Mommy's turn to have the crud!

Kinsley woke up last night with her ear hurting. Back to the doctor for her this morning to confirm that she has a blister on her ear drum. So glad I took her in because the doctor said that her eardrum could've ruptured. I am so hoping that it heals quickly and starts to feel better for her.

It has not been a fun month at our house!! Poor Grayson missed the entire week of school before Christmas break and his Christmas party at school. Kinsley missed her Christmas party at school. Grayson also had a speaking part in our church Christmas program that he wasn't able to attend. :( It has been ROUGH, but at the same time, it has been a time when I am thankful that these illnesses have been minor and that we can heal from. The time taking care of my children has been something that I have enjoyed. So this December, our memories have been of spending time together snugglin on the couch, taking temperatures and taking medications. Our Christmas tree isn't full of schoolmade ornaments from 2010 but our hearts are full of time together. It has definitely reminded me of what's important during this time of year, and that is the birth of our Lord and Savior and it has been a time to reflect on how lucky I am to have two beautiful children to care for. Have I missed all of the fun festivities that come with December and Christmas time??? Absolutely . . . but it is about the ones we love. Here's to a HEALTHY 2011!!
