Charleston

Tieg and I had our first getaway last week without the kiddos. We left on Wednesday for Charleston. We had a great time and enjoyed being tourists. It rained the entire drive and afternoon on the first day, so we took the opportunity to ride around and find our way through the city. We went down to the battery, and enjoyed the scenery, with maps and brochures in hand, we had a plan for the next day. That evening, we went to eat at Sticky Fingers - which was an awesome place for ribs! The food was really good, or I was just starving. Then we enjoyed some shopping! The town had so much to offer in the shopping department - which was all within walking distance of our hotel! My kind of place! :)
We went to the Fort Sumter museum and learned about civil war history. We then spent about two hours in the market and did more shopping. We stopped into a local winery and did a wine tasting. It was a lot of fun and we brought home some goodies! Then we took a carriage tour of the city and learned a lot of really cool stuff about Charleston and got to see some really neat places. The architecture and houses are absolutely amazing! That night we went on a ghost tour of the city at dark. Our tour guide was a great storyteller and took us to a graveyard. She actually had a key to the graveyard and took us in and locked the gate behind her. It was very interesting to hear the stories. I tried to take a picture of the graveyard as we were leaving and unexplainably, my camera wouldn't let me take a picture. I tried putting it on another setting to try taking a photo, and again it wouldn't do anything. I don't know what was going on, but it was a beautiful night. One of my favorite pictures was taken of a church on the tour.

Funny story of the trip - if you know me well then you know that I am scared to death of elevators. My fear is getting stuck and not being able to get out - I don't know why, just one of my fears! We had to park on the fifth floor of the parking deck, and I wanted to take the stairs, but Tieg wanted to go on the elevator, and he wasn't letting me walk by myself, so I gave in and took the elevator. A girl gets on with us and takes a deep breath and I could tell she was a little uneasy. She totally looked at us and says, "This elevator breaks all of the time. I can't believe I am even on here." At this point, I totally stop breathing and the minute the elevator stops and the doors open, I jump out and take the stairs the rest of the way! We didn't use that elevator the rest of the trip.

We had a great time and definitely look forward to another getaway together next year! We missed the kids greatly and their reaction to seeing us when we got home was priceless! I wish I had my video camera for it! So good to get away, and so good to come back home!
